Companies are racing to burnish their green credentials ahead of widespread employee walk-outs on Friday, as a youth-led global climate protest movement spills over into the workplace. Jeff Bezos, Amazon chief executive, facing the prospect of a large protest outside the company’s Seattle headquarters, announced new climate targets on Thursday, saying the company would aim for net zero emissions by 2040, and be fuelled by 100 per cent renewable energy from 2030. Brands including Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s plan to shut all of their stores on Friday, so that employees can attend the event.
