GMU, UMd., Mitre tapped for GEAR Center awards

The General Services Administration on Tuesday tapped a litany of local universities and companies to help stand up a nonprofit think tank tasked with solving some of the unique problems that beguile the federal government Tuesday.  The agency selected three teams of industry, academic and nonprofit institutions as the winners of its Government Effectiveness Advanced Research (GEAR) Center Challenge, providing awards of $300,000 each to tackle specific issues impacting federal operations and how to modernize them. Johns Hopkins University Centers for Civic Impact, the Volcker Alliance’s Government-to-University Initiative and the Mid-America Regional Council will lead a program to train 250 federal employees in Kansas City on how to leverage data-based decision-making for policy and government resource deployment.  The GSA also tapped Mitre, UMd.
