Inspired by an employee’s experience while traveling, Walmart is piloting a program that makes breastfeeding and pumping on the go easier for its customers and associates who are new moms. The free-standing pods provide nursing mothers with a private, comfortable place to nurse or pump while they’re away from home. Mamava was founded in 2006 in Vermont by COO Christine Dodson and CEO Sascha Mayer with a mission of changing cultural perceptions of pumping and breastfeeding and providing a way for every woman to have the opportunity to nurse her child, regardless of her circumstances, and even if her workplace can’t provide a dedicated moms’ room.
