What to watch in the week ahead

Investors will be eyeing the jobs report and the Fed in the week ahead on Wall Street.

Look for jobs growth in the U.S. to slow when the Labor Department reports the latest stats on Friday. Nonfarm payrolls will have likely declined to 159,000 in August. The unemployment rate is expected to have held steady at 3.7%.

Later that day, Fed Chair Jerome Powell will be speaking on a panel in Zurich. The topic: “Economic Outlook and Monetary Policy.” On Wednesday, New York Fed President John Williams addresses inflation at a conference in New York. Wall Street widely expects the central bank to cut interest rates when policymakers meet later in mid-September.

On Thursday, investors will see if Lululemon extends its momentum. Quarterly profit is expected to rise at the yoga pants maker, whose shares have risen more than 50% this year.

Lululemon is pushing into menswear, an arena dominated by Nike and Under Armour.
