Half of Philadelphia’s workforce shares salary info with colleagues. Here’s why that’s a bad idea.

A new Robert Half survey of office workers in Philadelphia found 50% share salary information with colleagues, and about 12% used that information to negotiate a raise. It’s a risky strategy, says Robert Half’s Maria Incollingo. Incollingo, assistant vice president for the recruiting firm’s Philadelphia tech division, said using colleagues’ compensation as leverage in negotiations often backfires.
