The benchmark Stoxx 600 added 0.3 per cent in early Monday trading while London’s FTSE index gained 0.4 per cent. Frankfurt’s Dax rose 0.1 per cent. Washington introduced tariffs of 15 per cent on $112bn of Chinese imports and China retaliated by bringing in additional levies on US goods, including crude oil. With the latest trade news as a backdrop, Japan’s Topix fell 0.4 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 both fell 0.6 per cent. In mainland China, the CSI 300 gained 1.3 per cent after surveys showed a varied picture for the country’s manufacturing sector.
